Who is George Cayley?
(1773-1854) George Cayley was a plane and aircraft designer. He has had many accomplishes , including being included in the International Aerospace Hall of Fame. He has been one of the indicators to many flying contraptions.
When he got older , George had many designs of modern airplanes that he had not published. Some of his aircraft designs are the Air Ship, Monoplane Glider, Helicopter (not modern), glider that carry's a human aloft, and a Fix Wing Machine. In fact, although the Wright Brothers made the first airplane they used Cayley's papers and models to help them.
The four forces of flight had to come from someone , guess who? George Cayley thought of the 4 forces of flight (drag, lift, thrust, weight). The four forces of flight all do different helpful activities. Weight is the forced that is caused by gravity. Lift holds the air machine in the air. Drag slows down the air machine. Finally , thrust moves the aircraft. The forces of flight are very helpful and very important to any flying machine.
Georges family was very wealthy. He had 4 sisters and 1 brother. As a young boy George loved and was interested in the Chinese Top (a Chinese Top was one of the indicators to the helicopter). His neighbors were clock fixers or mechanics. As George spent more and more time with his friendly neighbors he learned more about mechanics. When George was only 10 years old he read a book about air balloons and decided he wanted to work with aircraft when he grew up. As you can see, George's childhood impacted a lot on what George did as an adult.
As the years pass on George Cayley's name is fading more and more away , but he will always be "The Father of Aviation!!"
